Space Museum: Collection of Space Artefacts & Memorabilia
Our collection is relatively small but we do have some genuine historic artifacts. As far as we know this is the only public collection of space memorabilia in New Zealand.
Remember, the museum is just part of the space centre—there are plenty of other exhibits too.
Some of our museum pieces:
Items from the Space Shuttle program, mostly small spare parts and related ground-based equipment.
Items from the Soviet space program, including space suit parts, a comm headset, sleeping bag, medals and space food.
Cue card that was used on the Apollo 9 mission.
Signed on the back by Apollo 9 commander Jim McDivitt.
Models of spacecraft from the history of spaceflight.
Some were made by Space Dave, some are on long-term loan.
We also have:
- Meteorites
- Space books, newspapers and other publications
- Philatelics (postage stamps, etc)
