Mission: Manned Lunar Landing
In 1961 President JF Kennedy committed the USA to landing an astronaut on the Moon by the end of the decade. NASA achieved this goal with Apollo 11 in July 1969. The program ended with Apollo 17 in 1975.
Along the way there were only two serious setbacks: The loss of the Apollo 1 crew and the mishap with Apollo 13.
