- It was was visited by the spacecraft Deep Space 1 in 2001. The information sent back to Earth was, at the time, the best images and close-up science data of a comet.
- Reflecting less than 3 percent of all the sunlight that hits it, this is one of the darkest known objects in the Solar System.
