Facts About Charon:

  • The first close-up photos were taken by NASA's New Horizons space probe in 2015.
  • May be pronounced "Sharon" or "Karon".
  • Although it's called a moon, it is so large in comparison to Pluto that the two bodies could be thought of as a binary system. Both Pluto and Charon orbit a common centre of gravity that lies between them.
