Makemake

Makemake is a relatively large dwarf planet located in the Kuiper belt. It is about two-thirds the size of Pluto.

Facts About Makemake:

  • Makemake is probably the 2nd or 3rd largest object in the Kuiper belt after Pluto and Eris.
  • It has no known moons, which means we can't accurately measure its mass - we can only estimate it.
  • Its surface is probably covered with methane and ethane, and possibly nitrogen ices.

Naming:  Makemake is named after the creator of humanity and god of fertility in the mythos of the Rapa Nui, the native people of Easter Island.
