Meteor Showers

Meteors (shooting stars) are small rocky objects that can be seen glowing and burning up in the night sky as they travel through our atmosphere. You can see meteors on any clear night with good viewing conditions. It's normal to see up to a few meteors per hour.

A meteor shower is when you see a lot more meteors per hour, perhaps one or two per minute. Meteors showers are caused by the Earth passing through the tail of a comet. The debris from the comet's tail creates many meteors that are easily visible with the unaided eye. You don't need a telescope or binoculars to watch a meteor shower, you just need warm clothes and patience.
