Oberon is the 18th moon from Uranus, and the outermost of its major moons.

  • Oberon is the second most massive moon of Uranus and the ninth most massive moon in the Solar System.
  • It probably formed from the accretion disk that surrounded Uranus just after the planet's formation.
  • It consists of roughly equal amounts of ice and rock.

Names:  Uranus IV

Discovered:  1787  by William Herschel
Naming:  Named after the mythical king of the fairies in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
